Setting
The setting of this book is in a dystopian society known as the final empire, where all of the lower class (the skaa) are slaves owned by the pseudodeity known as the Lord Ruler, a supposedly immortal god-king who somehow saved the world 1000 years ago. The sky is continually choked with the clouds of thick ash belched forth from the ashmounts, perpetually active volcanoes dotted across the landscape of the empire, and all of the plants that grow are some shade of brown, orange, or purple. At night a thick fog known as the mist blankets the land. The citizens are very superstitious of the mist, refusing to go out at night for fear of the mistwraiths, creatures said to suck out a person's soul.

In the final empire there are certain people among the nobility (and skaa halfbreeds) known as Allomancers, people with the ability to burn allomantic metals to give them amazing powers.

There are also places, things, people, creatures, etc. that are mentioned in this book, but since they are not actually featured I will not go in depth about them at this time.
