"Mistborn: The Final Empire" by Brandon Sanderson

Character Summaries

Kelsier:

Rash and slightly impulsive at the beginning of the book, Kelsier seems to become more stable and mature as the book goes on, and gains perspective as to what constitutes an enemy, and who is simply someone who disagrees with you.

Vin:

Vin starts out as extremely distrustful of others, with the assumption that everyone, no matter who, will betray her eventually. She lives a lonely, solitary existence before Kelsier shows her how to be a mistborn and, more importantly, how to trust someone again. As the book goes on, she starts to realize how empty and alone her life was when she was on her own, and she consciously rejects her previous self.

Elend:

Elend starts out as a slightly eccentric young man whose only act of rebellion against the steel ministry is to read books that are forbidden from the public because they speak out against the tyranny of the Lord Ruler. He only contemplated the wisdom contained within the books in a purely philosophical manner because any overt action would get him killed or severely punished by the current government. As the book progresses, Elend starts to apply the philosophies he has read to the way he lives his life, and he matures because of it.

Sazed:

Sazed is essentially the same in the beginning of the book as he is in the end, the ever present character in the background that ensures that the whole operation runs smoothly and efficiently, and looks out for Vin.
