"Mistborn: The Final Empire" by Brandon Sanderson

Chapters 16-20

Chapter 16  Vin wakes up after sleeping for two weeks while healing from her injuries.  She confronts Sazed about the speed she observed when he saved her at the palace, but he will not share how he did it and she is prohibited from using any allomancy during the rest of her recovery period.  Chapter 17  Vin is becoming increasingly bored during her recovery at the Renoux mansion and insists on going to another ball to gather more information and relieve her cabin fever.  Kelsier reveals that he was married and many believe his dead wife betrayed him to the Lord ruler. Chapter 18 Vin goes to the ball, where she again spends the evening talking with Ellend, who, it is discovered, is the heir to the Venture family.  She dances with several young men and one of the noblewomen attempts to intimidate her into spying on Ellend on her behalf.  Chapter 19 Kelsier frames one noble house for a death in another, purchases information as an informant, then spreads misinformation by posing as an informant.  Chapter 20 Vin notices their efforts to help the rebellion are succeeding and then, while receiving training to better make use of the ability to sense when someone is using allomancy, confides to Kelsier’s brother about how she was abused as a child by her mother and brother.
