Chapters 11-15
Chapter 11 begins with Vin and Kelsier finding her old thieving crew slaughtered by a steel inquisitor, proving they have not lost her trail. They also find the old leader of the crew tortured to death. In chapter 12, Vin is on her way to the ball in her noblewoman disguise. During the ball, she refuses all invitations to dance from various noblemen. Wanting to get a better vantage point, Vin goes to a balcony where she meets a young man named Ellend and converses with him until she has to leave.
Chapter 13, Vin is back at Lord Renoux’s manor and they are going over the information she learned at the ball and the topic of her father, who she recognized at the ball comes up. It turns out, Vin’s father is a high ranking obligator for the empire.Afterwards, by following Kelsier on one of his nighttime raids, Vin has discovered that there is a way for allomancers to travel quickly from town to town using a path known as a spikeway. In chapter 14, Vin goes along on Kelsier’s plan to sneak into the palace and whilethe Lord Ruler is away, and is subsequently caught and grievously wounded by a steel inquisitor, but is able to escape with help of a steward named Sazed. During chapter 15, a man named Dockson chastises Kelsier for including Vin in the palace raid. Sazed is able to return Vin into the safe house where she begins her recovery.
